Join us for the SCI School Summer Mingle
Before the summer begins, we hope you will join us for the SCI School Summer Mingle. It will be a relaxed gathering to round off the academic year together, with light refreshments, drinks and time to catch up with colleagues. During the evening, we will also announce this year’s recipient of the Borelius Medal. The medal was established in 1998 in memory of Gudmund Borelius, Professor of Physics at KTH and a key figure behind the Engineering Physics degree programme. It honours outstanding contributions to the development and success of engineering science at KTH.
We look forward to seeing many of you there. Don't forget to sign up by 1 June | | |
Highlights from the SCI Faculty Board meeting, 27 April 2026
At the latest Faculty Board meeting, members discussed the external review of doctoral education, the appointment of a nomination committee, research quality follow up and ongoing work within the school’s reform agenda.
- External review of doctoral education. The Board discussed how the upcoming external review of doctoral education should be carried out and when it should take place. One proposal is to use reviewers from other KTH schools, with the option to bring in reviewers from outside KTH in specific areas. The review should focus on systems, processes and quality goals rather than the research or theses themselves.
- New nomination committee appointed. The Board decided on a new nomination committee for the period 1 May to 31 December 2026.
- Research quality in focus. Ahead of the school’s management dialogue on research quality, the Board discussed the need for broader internal data. Possible areas to follow up include faculty volume over time, number of doctoral students and number of publication.
- Update on the school’s reform agenda. The JML-work continues with workshops for faculty and supervisors during the spring. The Board also discussed AI-related activities, including SCI Agentathon and projects on AI in assessment. In the Makerspace initiative, the importance of including a JML perspective was highlighted, with plans for training packages for different target groups.

She develops technology for the Einstein TelescopeVaishali Adya contributes to the development of the Einstein Telescope, a future European facility for studying gravitational waves with higher precision than today’s detectors. Through her research in quantum optics, particularly squeezed light, she is developing technology that reduces quantum noise and enables the detection of weaker signals from farther away in the universe. The work is carried out in international collaboration and contributes to one of Europe’s most ambitious research projects. Read the article

New chip offers way to make use of quantum system ‘imperfections’“Understanding how quantum systems behave under this messiness is crucial if we want our experiments to say something about nature as it really is, not just idealized setups,” says Govind Krishna, PhD student. In a recent study at KTH, Kishna led the development of a chip that enables researchers to simulate the way many quantum systems behave when they lose energy or information to their surroundings. The results were published in Nature Communications.

Support in contact with external partners
The brochure "Forska med KTH" and the intranet pages about collaborating with researchers are intended to support researchers who are in contact with companies and other organisations. The material explains different forms of collaboration, such as collaborative research and contract research, and also covers confidentiality and services linked to research infrastructure and labs.
Please share the information and refer to the brochure when in contact with companies and organisations that want to collaborate with KTH.
