SCI Faculty Celebration Evening We’re
bringing the SCI faculty community together for an evening of celebration on 22
January 2026 in R1
(Reaktorhallen).
We’ll welcome our new
faculty colleagues, congratulate
recent promotions,
and take time to be together across departments in a relaxed setting. As Dean, I want
to say this plainly: we are a school. I’m very proud
of what we’ve achieved - and of the faculty who make
it possible every
day. I hope that this evening makes our shared sense
of community visible:
colleagues meeting colleagues, ideas crossing boundaries, and the feeling that
we move forward together. R1
is a one-of-a-kind venue with deep historical significance at KTH. If you
haven’t visited before, this is the perfect occasion; if you have, you know the
atmosphere adds something special to a night like this.To help shape
the programme, we’re forming a small party committee of faculty
members. If you’re interested in contributing, please speak
with your Head of Department. For now, please mark
your calendar for the evening of 22 January.
A formal invitation with practical details (timings, RSVP, and the short
programme) will follow later this term.

Highlights from the SCI Faculty Board meeting – 25 September 2025
At the latest Faculty Board meeting, members discussed education updates, quality assurance, and the financial outlook.
Programme and course decisions. The Board approved updates to the course portfolio for HT2026 and VT2027: new courses in technical photography, biophysics and discrete mathematics, along with the consolidation or replacement of several mathematics courses.
-
Strengthening quality work. Preparations continue for the external peer review in HT2026, including comparison with practices at other universities. The Board reviewed findings from this year’s course follow-up, noting overall good quality but low response rates and uneven use of Canvas. A draft quality report was also presented, highlighting trends such as doctoral throughput; the Board will provide feedback before it is finalised for the President’s autumn dialogues.
-
Financial outlook. The T2 follow-up shows lower operating and other costs than budgeted; the school now expects to end the year around break-even rather than the planned deficit. An updated file will be circulated.

KTH initiative paves the way for new nuclear energy lab
One of KTH's strategic research initiatives has paid off in the form of substantial research grants from the Swedish Energy Agency. Two projects have secured the entire SEK 50 million grant – and a bit more. “KTH has scored big in the Swedish Energy Agency’s call for proposals. I believe we can rely on our strength in our various fields and the fact that we have put together two very convincing applications,” says Pär Olsson, Professor of Physics and Nuclear Materials and Head of the Department of Physics at KTH.

Help shape the image of KTH ahead of our 200th anniversary In 2027 KTH will turn 200 years – a chance to celebrate our history and look to the future. In preparation for the anniversary, we want to gain a clearer understanding of how KTH is perceived, to help us develop our communication going forward. During October, we will be conducting surveys both internally and externally. These surveys are part of our efforts to create communication that reflects KTH’s vision and goals, and will help us shine even brighter in 2027. Your response as a KTH employee is an important part of this work. Thank you for your contribution!
The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete, and you can choose to respond in either Swedish or English.
All responses are anonymous and will be treated confidentially.
Link to the survey You can also access the survey from the intranet homepage.
