A new semester is starting, and the campus is coming back to life. It’s a pleasure to welcome colleagues after the summer break, and to greet all students beginning or continuing their studies. At KTH, this season is particularly colorful with all the introductory activities in place. It is also a moment to reflect. Our core mission, research and education, does not happen in isolation. When students Isak Jarbo and Johan Allberg started working on their bachelor’s thesis, they hardly knew what braking curves were. Today, their report has laid the foundation for a change in Swedish railway safety – and both have landed part-time jobs with the Swedish Transport Administration. The idea for their thesis came during one of KTH’s regular Railway Evenings, where companies and public agencies present real-world projects for students to get involved in.

The purpose of this SRC grant is to develop operations and environments for fundamental nuclear research at HEIs. This initiative aims to establish larger and more advanced research environments with more active researchers, which can also attract national and international researchers. Data feminism course for PhD students
The "Data Feminism" course bridges the gap between data science and the crucial aspects of "equality, diversity, and equitable conditions (JML)". With a comprehensive exploration of these themes, the course delves deeply into both theoretical concepts and technical considerations surrounding data ethics, data justice, and data sustainability.

Due to the transition
from Kopps to Ladok, the process for managing teaching assistants in Canvas
will change. Teaching assistants will now be added manually in Canvas by
the teacher, course coordinator, or examiner. Previously, teaching assistants could be added to Canvas via UG groups but this is no longer possible.

Every year, KTH welcomes leading international mathematicians to the Göran Gustafsson Lectures in Mathematics. During their visit, the speakers give an accessible introductory lecture in their field, followed by two specialized talks.
The 2025 lecturer is Alfio Quarteroni, Professor Emeritus at Politecnico di Milano and EPFL Lausanne, founder of MOX at Politecnico di Milano, and a member of several renowned academies, including the European Academy of Sciences and the Italian Academy of Engineering and Technology. He will deliver lectures on:
“Mathematical Modeling and Numerical Simulation of Heart Function" and "Physics-Informed and Data-Driven Models for Solving Partial Differential Equations".

Nominate for the KTH Language Award
| Without
clear language, we are not able to communicate effectively with each other, nor
can we spread knowledge about our work. In order to promote the importance of
language, KTH has established a Language Award.
The award will
go to an employee or student who has contributed to e.g. enhanced linguistic
quality, enhanced language competence, development of technical terminology, or
the promotion of linguistic diversity. The winner is selected by the KTH
Language Committee, and the prize will be awarded at the Storträffen Meetup in
December.
