Beyond the headlines - Remembering the whole of Science
Recent investments in key areas of science and technology are both welcome and necessary. At the same time, it is worth asking whether we are overlooking other parts of STEM that, while less directly tied to current strategic themes, remain essential to the long-term strength of science and engineering. I find myself returning to a question that may not fit neatly into policy frameworks but deserves to be asked: Are we focusing too much on the visible outcomes and too little on the invisible foundations? And are we overlooking other parts of STEM that, while less directly tied to current strategic themes, remain essential to the long-term strength of science and engineering?

New course on sustainability and gender equality in funding applications

The two subject areas share a module because they are closely related. The JML section consists of an introduction to gender and equality, as well as short films on how such aspects can be included in funding applications and research. The sustainability section consists of short films about various concepts, such as the three pillars of environmental, economic, and social sustainability that form the basis of the UN's 17 global sustainability goals.
