A new year at SCIAs we
begin 2026, I would like to wish you all a very good start to the new year.
With winter in full swing and snow on campus, the year has begun with a gentle
reminder that some things take a bit more effort this time of year, including
simply moving between buildings. In 2026, our reform agenda moves further into implementation. We will focus on
strengthening quality in education and doctoral studies, providing long-term
and transparent support for research and infrastructure, and improving our work
and study environment through sustainable faculty renewal. Equality, diversity,
and inclusion remain central to how we lead and develop the school. Thank you for the many ways you contribute to SCI, through teaching, research,
support functions, and leadership. I look forward to continuing our work
together throughout the year.

The social role of researchers in times of conflict Collaboration is inscribed as one of the university's three tasks, and the discussion about the relevance of research is lively. But we rarely talk about when and if it is a mandatory requirement. When an issue that research has interested in becomes political and controversial, should researchers then clarify the discussion? Or are there, on the contrary, limits to a researcher's social engagement? On February 17, Folke Tersman, professor of practical philosophy at Uppsala University and deputy CEO of the Institute for Futures Studies, will open KTH's collegial forum with a presentation of different perspectives and considerations in relation to our social role.
